We love the ladies over at Chicago Bloggers Network because they invite us to some of the coolest outings for networking. This week’s CBN Happy Hours at River Roast was brought to us by River Roast Bar located in River North we believe right off the river at 315 W. LaSalle. Almost sounds like a tongue twister right? Well the evening sort of was but of many different stories, blogging pointers & tales of indie hustle.
We arrived at River Roast Bar a few minutes after everyone but many of the Chicago bloggers Network where already in attendance networking. As we walked in to take a look around we shot a quick hello gesture over to Jill of Jessandjill.com the ever so stylish social butterfly who was very engaged with some of the other bloggers. As we took our seat up front (not sure why we sat down lol) the waitress came over to greet us with the beverage choices of the evening. Mother Diablo opted for the over rated IPA and I for what I thought was a sangria punch. When she arrived with three drinks I felt like she read my mind.
One was a White Wine Sangria the other a Brandy based Punch. As we started taking photos for the Instagram the sandwiches served on mini slider buns came around offering choices of pork, chicken and beef (chicken was the winner, pork was bland 7 the beef was too fatty).
Just in time meaning we can get all of our photos at once then dig in because where were kind hungry. I enjoyed both drinks but of the two drinks I tasted the Sangria was the most flavorful yet the brandy punch was delicious as well, over all good stuff. As we sat there discussing amongst ourselves why we hadn’t heard of River Roast Bar we were greeted by the ever so nice Chiorganicgirls.com who greet us so warmly. As we started conversing with topics ranging from being vegetarian to WordPress to being a part of the bloggers network the evening was off to a great start.
While we were discussing something that now escapes me in enters Sapna of Vegetariantourist.com with the warmest smile ever followed by a firm handshake. She is hilarious and so vibrant with energy she added a vibrancy to the already awesome conversations in motion as we inquired what her website was about which in short she said travel, fun & food. I can dig it, sure can. While conversing about various topics Chicago Hustles websites in enters @thekittchen one of the founders of Windycitybloggers.com who produced a book solely about grilled cheese. As I read this in front of her from her Instagram we were like damn that sounds good. Kit is rather righteous and had us laughing with everything she chose to discuss the evening thus far has been networking bliss. As @theKittchen & @Chiorganicgirls became involved in a side conversation two bloggers I had seen before came over to join our table. These ladies as with all we encountered rocked in their own unique way. As we all introduced ourselves, talked about the handle grip on the Lumia 1020 I always carry with the conversations just flowed like we had met before.
These ladies Shortisthenewblack.com, Thenakedcanvasblog.com, 101thingsilove.blogspot.com & rounded out the amazing evening of conversations as we discussed lack of creativity in certain work places, blogging full time, startups, parenting & sponsored trips.
The CBN Happy Hours was only 2 hours mind you (5:30-7:30 we arrived at 5:50) and had a blast as if it was 4 hours had gone by. As I wanted to know more information about the bar I went over to the bar to hear a bit of information from the bartender (the tallest one) who told me he had followed Tony Mantuano’s from another business because he was that awesome and citing that after a trip overseas Tony Mantuano’s held onto a concept which turned into River Roast Bar with one of his partners. After we decided to head out we went down stairs to view the rest of the venue. The decor inside the venue is rather nice modern wood style which is typically found in River North restaurants it seems but with its own style.
As we walked to the bathroom admiring the river side patio view we decided to come back soon for a crack at the full menu before summer is over. As we made an exit we stopped for a few photos which drew the attention of a table of suits who seemed to be discussing something important to which me taking a photo of the River Roast logo with my Lumia 1020 was a distraction for them.
As I stopped for a photo about 12 feet away the table went silent. I didn’t turn around because I was busy capturing a photo if I can carry on so can you guys lol. As we exitted we saw two bloggers grab two more sandwhiches from the heat lamp, though tempting we didn’t want to grab & run ha ha.
Another CBN Happy Hours for the books with new friends, new inspiration & new definitions of #HUSTLE. Special thanks to River Roast Bar for hosting CBN Happy Hours.
Chicago is the city that hustles the hardest you can’t tell us otherwise, you can try but we won’t listen…
