Dream Factories: The Documentary

Dream Factories surrounds the current issues of truancy and academic abandonment being produced by overpopulated and underfunded “dropout factories” in New York City high schools, and introduces the alternative schools that are being developed to help prevent and correct for them. These schools are here to put a stop to the dropout factories, and take over for the business of producing dreams.

This project will marry the most raw and sentimental parts of the human spirit with the cold facts and figures that surround the political and socio-economic factors of our public education system. We plan to dive head first into the state of current affairs, where exactly it is failing our students, why transfer schools are not getting the attention they deserve, and why they have become a necessity in the first place.

This is a project that I am very passionate about as a graduate of South Brooklyn Community High School, the first alternative school ever built in New York City. The origin of these schools and the stories of the students are unforgettable, beautiful, and inspiring, and we plan on making a film that reflects and encompasses all of these unique elements. If properly funded, this film has the opportunity to reform and resolve the issues currently surrounding our public education system, particularly in Chicago where out schools are struggling. This is more than a movie, this is a movement.

If you are at all interested in the project, I would love to speak more.
