One-on-One Battle Moves to Union Station; Winner Moves on to the North American Final in Las Vegas

CHICAGO On June 7, the Midwest’s top b-boys will face off during the Red Bull BC One Chicago Cypher 2014 in the stunning Great Hall of Union Station. Throughout four rounds of 1-on-1 battles, the competition will feature b-boys that are looking to break into the most prestigious 1-on-1 competition: Red Bull BC One. The 16 b-boys will fight for the chance to represent the Midwest in the ultimate battle at the North American Qualifier later this year in Las Vegas.

B-boys will display their styles reflecting various regional backgrounds. With West Coast power moves meeting the freezing styles of the East, Chicago fans of this complex dance style will not be disappointed. At the end, only one of the 16 competitors will emerge with the right to call himself the best b-boy in the Midwest. In addition to bragging rights, the victor will be one of few b-boys from the Western Hemisphere fighting for their ticket to the World Finals in Paris this November. Native Chicago b-boy Wicked will join Red Bull BC One Allstar Ronnie and breakdance legend Ken Swift to judge the Chicago event.

“This year’s Chicago Cypher is by far the most anticipated battle yet,” says Wicked. “It’s going to be amazing watching some of the best competitors from all parts of the US go head to head at Union Station.”

As one of the four elements of hip-hop—along with MCing, DJing and graffiti—b-boying has thrived in Chicago, a city with undisputed hip-hop cred. Union Station will serve as the arena for a day of battles that will help shape the future of b-boying. Chicago DJ illanoiz, will provide music for the event and co-hosting the event are Bravemonk & AMS.

The 16 competing b-boys include: Evol (Chicago), Onyx (Chicago), Micah (Chicago), JFunky (Chicago), Data (Colorado Springs), Moks (Chicago), Black Attack (Chicago), Mijo (Milwaukee), Mighty Wealthy (Brooklyn Park), BzBroox (Cleveland), King Kong (Minneapolis), MN Joe (Minneapolis), Jesse Jess (Minneapolis), Waka (Chicago), Lil Ivan (Chicago) and Boogie B (Minneapolis).


Red Bull BC One was founded in 2004 in Biel, Switzerland. Over the years, the championship has moved from Germany to Brazil, South Africa, France, the USA, Japan, Russia and South Korea.
